No sooner had our January issue hit your mailboxes, including
two reports from
Austria, than we received yet another report on an Austrian red deer hunt that demanded our attention. Subscriber Ben Wilson, III visited the Hochkar region in late September on a hunt booked through and accompanied by Eva Blaimauer-Schnopfhagen of
Hunt Austria (011-43-664-306-2645). You'll recall that one of the January reports by Paul DeCleva Jr., gave high marks to this outfitter/agent for hunts in Austria, Croatia and Hungary.
Wilson says the hunt was a gift from his wife, who accompanied him: "I could have gone to other countries for a red stag, or even hunted for one here in the Hill Country of Texas. But I had hunted in Germany when I was stationed there with the US Army and came to like and respect the European hunting customs......
