Lance Stapleton, Senior Western Correspondent

Growing up in the mountains of Colorado, Lance Stapleton was introduced to hunting and fishing at an early age. He graduated from Colorado State University with a master's degree, and pursued a professional career in management and engineering consulting, culminating in retirement as partner in several telephone companies. Alongside his professional career, Stapleton also maintained a career as an outdoor writer, author, photographer and even publisher. His writing career spans more than 45 years with his byline appearing regularly in major outdoor publications. He has authored three books and thousands of articles on the adventure of hunting.

Early in his hunting career, Stapleton was very involved in the development of international hunting, including leading some of the first hunts into Mexico, China and Mongolia. Although he has hunted in numerous countries, some of his most memorable hunts were experienced in North America. It is in this arena that Stapleton has written for The Hunting Report as Senior Western Correspondent for over two decades.

His books, A Reference Manual for Hunting North American Sheep and Trophy Mule Deer, were wildly recognized as definitive hunting manuals - selling out their first editions in less than six months. His third book, Deer Quest is completely different, written from a storyteller's point of view, and patterned after the likes of Russell, Page and O'Connor.

In his latest book, Stapleton focused on the adventure and challenge of a year spent hunting the six major species of deer in North America. This book is available directly from the author for $10.00, plus shipping, representing a significant discount to all of our subscribers. To order a copy, simply e-mail your name and address to lancestapleton@meritel.net and a signed copy will be shipped to you. The first 50 subscribers who respond will be sent a hardback, limited edition at no extra cost.

Stapleton is a strong advocate of hunting, game management and conservation. He is a life member of most of the national big game hunting organizations and has served on the board of directors for many of them. He lives by his motto, "Life is too short - go hunting!"

The Devaluation of Bonus Points In Utah

Feb 10, 2009
Once-in-a-lifetime permits in Utah for bighorn sheep, bison, moose and mountain goats just got a whole lot tougher to draw - even for those of you who have been collecting bonus points for years. In fact, a deluge of new applicants could make your bonus points here near worthless. And chances in the other limited entry drawings won't be any better, either.
