From May 12 to may 16 I profiled Poronui Ranch which is located in the Central North Island of New Zealand. It is 18,000 acres of trophy hunter paradise, while at the same time providing accommodation and activities that will have the non hunters in the travelling party grinning from ear to ear. Owned by the Westervelt group it is a perfect mix of North American financial backing, top flight Kiwi managers, and drop dead scenery and majestic beasts. During my visit I drooled over big stags during the day, and fantastic Lodge food at night. This location is one of New Zealand's all round best and in an upcoming article I will be describing in more depth the reasons why. There are only a limited number of top flight places I would say to hunters 'bring your wife' and earn her gratitude and respect forever, and this is near the top of the list. Yes I did tear myself away from the great lodge and do some hunting, and shot this monster sika stag 31 inches long with 12 inch brow tines.
